Om
So, for my final project, I wanted to use a positive symbol comprised of moss, and display it where stressed out students would see it. At first I was going to use a quote, but the task became too daunting because my moss plants kept dying. So, eventually I just settled for a symbol asociated with a powerful message, so I chose Om. In Hinduism, Ohm symbolizes the beginning, duration, and dissolution of the universe; it is the sound heard in the universe planets are in alignment.
So, I mounted a mixture of yogurt, water and moss on a cardboard cut out of the symbol, and watched it grow through the course of a week and a half. I made 2, and I chose to put them up on the physics and nuclear engineering building because "Om" sounds just like Ohms, which is unit of electrical ressistance so I though anyone familiar with circuits or physics would find it punny.
I like Om as a symbol because it promotes balance and harmony in the universe. I feel like the end of any semester is crazy and super stressful, so I hope people take it as a reminder that the universe goes far beyond finals week at UNM. Life will go on reguardless of how much we stress, cram and obsess, so why not try to find balance and happiness in our lives?

Project IV - Just in Case
I made little "Just in Case" wallet cards with information on how to handle a few common emergencies. It's focused more on the idea that it's okay to call for help, really, just pick up the phone and call someone who knows what they're doing (i.e. an ambulance). There's basic instructions on what else to do in the meantime.
I posted this on the bulletin board near the SUB. I chose this based on the great response that I got with my first project.
Matt and Jimmy's Quest for Appreciation
For this project Matt and I worked together to show appreciation for the Lapo employees. Specifically Matt made the "Thank you Lapo" poster and had students sign it to show their appreciation. This poster is still up on a wall in La Posada and continues to be signed. For my part of the project, I made small reminders for students to thank Lapo and put them on every table in the dining hall. I feel like this project was a great success because the "Thank you Lapo" poster has been signed so many times. The impact of the small reminders remains a mystery, but they are still up today. I hope we have helped bridge the gap between student and server. That is the ultimate goal of the projects.
Campus Campout
Proposal:
ASUNM Campus Campout
• Who: Undergraduate students of UNM
•
What: The
first annual ASUNM Cardboard Campout is an event created to raise money and
awareness for homelessness in the Albuquerque area. ASUNM Community Experience
and Student Special Events has teamed up to use this event to promote unity
while raising awareness on an issue that greatly affects our community.
Students can sign up in groups of 5-7 of which they will be responsible for
creating and maintaing a shelter for the night. Teams will be provided with one
cardboard box to start off with and must gather supplies from around the
community to create a shelter for the entire group. Groups should have their
shelters completed by 8:00 p.m. Along with the help of Joy Junction, students
will have the opportunity to listen to various personal testimonies dealing
with homelessness.
•
Where: Johnson
Field, UNM Main Campus
•
When: Friday,
May 11, 2012
Registration will be from 4:00-5:00
p.m. and the event will take place from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 a.m. the following day.
•
How: In
order to raise awareness on homelessness in the community, students will be
semi-immersed into a world that is most likely foreign to them: homelessness.
While the event will shine light on the harsh reality of homelessness, it will
not reach the full magnitude of what it is like to be without a home, food or
shelter. The entrance fee will be $10, a donation of 20 non-perishable food
items or a donation of 10 items of gently-used clothing per participant, all of
which will go directly to Joy Junction. Additionally, we will seek outside
sponsorships from local businesses in the community to donate food and water
for the participants.
• Promotion: We will advertise for Campus Campout
using all available media vehicles which include the ASUNM Facebook and Twitter
accounts, the ASUNM Website, advertisement on the LCD screens in the SUB,
posters hung throughout campus, sending invites to various listervs on campus,
sending invitations to all Resident Advisers to share with their residents,
sending invitations to the Community Assistants at Lobo Village to share with
their residents and through simply handing out flyers across campus.

Brainstorming:
This is the proposal for Bridget and my event to raise awareness for the homeless. We created a catchy flyer to grab people's attention. This event is not just to raise money for the homeless, we wanted to make people actually experience somewhat of how they have to live. This campout will make people more aware of how blessed they are and how much others, such as the homeless, need their assistance and compassion. The most important part of this event is that it is not going to be luxurious; after the participants get their shelters built, they will hear true accounts from victims of homelessness, just to take home the reality of the situation. The last part of this post is a brainstorming sheet, it has options for where to get supplies and possibilities of materials to make the shelter, such as cardboard boxes. There is a picture of Johnson field because that is where this great event is going to occur. If and when an event of this nature occurs, we are going to come together as a community to sleep for a solution to homelessness.
