Name: Florencio Olguin
Position: SUB Board President and ASUNM Governmental Affairs Executive Director, Senior
Major: Mass Communication and Political Science
How much time do you spend in the SUB? About 20-30 hours/week
How did you get elected to be SUB President? Appointed by ASUNM President and then elected by board to serve
Responsibilities: Board formulates policies for running the SUB. For example the board has approved to let Garcia's take over the spot where Dos Hermanos currently is at the end of their contract. We also help promote student activities and involvement in the SUB and oversee the budget and fees.
How long have you been at this position? Appointed since August
Why did you want the SUB Pres. position? I have been at UNM for four years now and feel that we have made some changes in the way the SUB runs and different things that it has to offer students. There are more activities and I want to keep promoting them to students so that they can benefit from all that UNM has to offer.
What benefits does the SUB offer students? Most of the student orgs are located in the SUB and hold meetings there. The Student Activities Office is there as well which is also a great resource for students to learn about getting involved in the over 400 groups we have on campus.
I really enjoyed interviewing Florencio. He was very personable and knew a lot about how things in the SUB work without making them too complicated. I knew the SUB was a prime location for the next project and hope that our project can be seen by a lot of students there.
