Hanging Glass Bottle Vases

This time around, I changed the glass globes and used glass bottles instead. I thought the idea of using recycled material would create a very different message. I also changed the location of the project. Instead of hanging the bottle vases from a tree at the duck pond on UNM campus, I hung them on a fence in downtown Albuquerque. This location is actually near the train station on Gold and 1st street. It is the fence that encloses the central bus stop. I thought the location of a busy bus station in an urban area was an interesting place to do a random public art project. It is a place where many people come in contact with one another, but people hardly ever stop to appreciate the little things because everyone is so worried about getting to where he or she needs to go. I was hoping that this project would spark conversation among strangers and create new friendships that otherwise would have been lost and forgotten.

  1. This was a good change of site. It completely changes the feel and the message of the project. Instead of disguising the work, you are making it really stand out against the background. Besides being an urban area, is the bus station important? If you want to keep working with the bus station, or bus stops, there are a lot of new questions to consider. But there would be plenty of opportunities and different types of people to interview about public transportation.
